Dalbeattie Star defeat Mid Annandale after half-time telling off

A half-time telling off set Dalbeattie Star on the way to a convincing win at Mid Annandale.

Eddie Warwick’s men were three goals to the good at the break in Lockerbie, but that wasn’t enough for the Star gaffer.

And after some harsh words, Star rattled in another three goals to take a 6-1 win and move to the top of the Utility Hut South of Scotland League.

Warwick said: “We blitzed them for the first 15 minutes of the first half and then for 20 minutes after that I felt like I was watching a different team.

“We started not doing what we are good at doing. None of our front three had a shot on target for 20 minutes.

“I wasn’t happy at half-time - it can be too easy, too soon and they can think the game is done, but it’s never done against any team. We got three goals quickly after half-time so clearly a bit of hairdryer treatment got a reaction.

“I’ve always been able to get a reaction out of them as I don’t need to shout and ball at them, I just need to tell them how good they are, that they need to play to their levels or they won’t be doing themselves any justice and that’s exactly what they were told at half-time.

“They weren’t doing anything wrong, but they were starting to get sloppy and then they went up a couple of levels in the second half. They worked so hard,

“It’s one of our games in hand and it’s taken us top of the league and two points clear at Christmas.”

A Star trialist gave them the lead after just a couple of minutes, recent arrival Connor Potts soon adding the second and Russell Williamson quickly making it 3-0.
