Threave Rovers caretaker boss hails best display of his tenure

Threave Rovers caretaker Paul McGinley reckons Saturday’s display at Ardeer Thistle was the best since he took charge.

A Tam Coles deep into stoppage time gave the Castle Douglas side all three points on their trip to Ayrshire – their first game for three weeks due to the weather.

And McGinley said: “Performance wise, it’s probably the best since we’ve been there.

We were a goal down but we were well on top at that time and we created a lot of chances. It was a wee bit of a sucker punch but we had a great reaction to it.

“It was a tough battle, it’s a hard place to go and get anything. To play in the manner we did was really pleasing.

“The lads have worked really hard in the last few weeks and we’ve turned a corner in regards how we’ll set up, how we’ll play and how we’ll train and it paid dividends on Saturday, we were really strong in the last 10 minutes.

“We had a goal disallowed and we were still streaming forwards so it was really pleasing when we did get the winner.

“We’re not going to be a team that sits back for a draw, we’ll go for it in every game we play in and try to approach it in that manner.”

Ardeer led at the break thanks to a goal from Jack Taylor.

However, Threave were level early in the second half thanks to Dylan Cairnie.

It looked as if they’d have to head home with a point but in the 95th minute Coles scored the winner.

McGinley felt the display was further proof the players have taken on board what he has been trying to get across to them since he took the reigns in September.

He said: “It takes a wee bit of time to get your ideas ingrained into folk.
