Rangers turn into Hotline laughing stock as SFA accused of 'bending over' to help Celtic amid furious ref row

A week is a long time in politics – but it seems like an eternity in Scottish football when there's a refereeing controversy.

Eight days on from the Old Firm penalty row and the back-and-forth bickering continues. But Andrew Lamb, Fraserburgh, reckons it’s time to draw a line under the matter, saying: “Whilst not getting a penalty in last Saturday's Old Firm game was disappointing, Rangers need to let it go and move on. These things balance themselves out over a season.”

Alan Flett said: “Rangers are wasting their time with their complaints about referees. For as long as I can remember, the SFA have been bending over backwards to help Celtic and that will never change. The penalty should have been awarded and Nick Walsh then told to have a look at the screen, whereupon he would have seen it was offside. Instead, both he and the VAR officials bottled it and Rangers have every right to take issue.”

Scott Gowers, Edinburgh, said: “Like Henry Moffat in Saturday’s Hotline, I thoroughly agree UEFA should intervene regarding the Celtic v Rangers match as the SFA have shown their true colours by not administering one of their rules which clearly led to one club having a distinct advantage in a match.

“Celtic deliberately breached the rules by not offering Rangers a ticket allocation. I am outraged at the slanderous reason regarding potential trouble as there are no other clubs having been denied tickets. Surely rules are there to be adhered to and blatantly being allowed to break them without disciplinary action stinks of corruption. Yes, UEFA must step in.”
