Calvin Ramsay set for Liverpool recall as Trent Alexander-Arnold injury leaves door open for Scotland star

Calvin Ramsay is reportedly set to be recalled by Liverpool with the club unhappy with how his loan at Preston has gone.

Ramsay signed up for a season at Deepdale back in the summer but was immediately sidelined by a serious knee injury that sent him back to his parent club for treatment. He made his long-awaited debut in November and followed that up with a start against QPR, but since then he's fallen out of contention and hasn't been in a squad since December 1.

This is Anfield report Liverpool are in talks with Preston to break the loan deal early and plan to take him back as they consider options over his future. It's indicated their preference is to loan him out again to try and ensure he gets more first team football - as they did with Fabio Carvalho, who was recently recalled from RB Leipzig and sent out to Hull.

But the news also comes after it emerged that vice captain Trent Alexander-Arnold is set for three weeks on the sidelines. With Joe Gomez currently covering for the injured Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas at left-back, 20-year-old Conor Bradley is the only other live right-back option. Ramsay may be hoping to compete for that position in the meantime and could get his chance with five games to come before the window closes.

Liverpool also recalled Rhys Williams from his loan at Aberdeen and Owen Beck from Dundee. Meanwhile Nat Phillips' loan to Celtic wasn't extended beyond January and the Reds are considering what to do with each of them in what is set to be a busy January on the outgoing front.
