Cumbernauld Colts boss hopes to keep pressure on East Kilbride with winning form
Cumbernauld Colts boss David Proctor hopes his side can maintain their winning run to keep the pressure on East Kilbride at the top of the Lowland League.
In-form Colts are second in the table and trail Kilby – Proctor’s former side – by just three points, although EK have played two games fewer than most of the field.
Back-to-back wins in their last league matches, defeating Cowdenbeath 2-0 and twice coming from behind to defeat Edinburgh Uni 3-2, have Colts in their best-ever position at this stage of the season.
They now travel to East Stirlingshire tonight and head to Gala Fairydean Rovers on Saturday ahead of a crunch clash with East Kilbride next month on November 11 at K-Park.
It is a testing time for Colts’ hopes of staying with the league leaders and Proctor said: “Hopefully we can keep our form going and stay on the coattails of East Kilbride for as long as we can, and see what happens from there.
“It’s a big month coming up in November with some tasty ones with Albion Rovers and East Kilbride back-to-back.
“We have got a tough run of fixtures now and we have to be prepared to use the squad.
“Everyone that gets their opportunity, needs to compete at the same level as the boys that have had the jersey before them.
“We don’t want to make wholesale changes for East Stirling, but there will be one or two players champing at the bit to get game time.”
Colts needed a dramatic late rally in their last league outing to take all three points against Edinburgh Uni.
They trailed 2-1 but Craig Holmes struck in the 83rd minute to equalise before Reg McLaren bagged the winner four minutes into stoppage time.
Proctor said: “We’ve had a difficult run in terms of away fixtures recently. Edinburgh University, over the years at
