Cambuslang Rangers v Petershill clash abandoned after horror injury
A horror injury to Cambuslang Rangers’ big-money signing Keirin Coleman forced abandonment of their West of Scotland First Division match against Petershill – with boss Paul McColl fearing he’s out for the season.
With ten minutes of the clash remaining and Petershill 2-0 up – and with Cambuslang having just missed a penalty – defender Coleman went down with a suspected dislocated knee.
Referee Ross Anderson immediately called a halt to the game, while an ambulance took the stricken 27-year-old to hospital.
McColl says he doesn’t know or care if the defeat will stand, as long as former Rutherglen Glencairn and Blantyre Vics star Coleman is okay.
A shell-shocked McColl said after the game: “It’s the big boy we’ve just signed from Cumnock and we spent a lot of money, but I don’t care about that, as long as he’s all right.
“It was a nothing thing, I don’t think it was even a tackle, but I don’t remember what happened, I’m just thinking about the injury.
“It was a coming together, and he’s twisted his knee.
“It’s a bad one, you can just tell. I think his knee has popped out, and the referee has halted it straight away.”
McColl says Cambuslang were doing okay and then the wheels came off spectacularly, with Jordan Shelvey red carded in the first half.
He said: “In the first half we were playing really well, but Shelvey has been booked. The ref said persistent fouling, but he only made two tackles.
“One of their players has then jumped on Shelvey’s ankle, he has reacted to it and the two of them are head-to-head.
“It’s 50-50 whether the ref books him, some would just tell you to behave, but if you’ve been booked it is stupid, you’re giving him the opportunity.
“It’s a poor mistake on Shelvey’s part, and then they score twice
