Cruising Rangers sweep Livingston aside as livewire Ross McCausland steals the Almondvale show - 3 talking points

Rangers cruised to a 2-0 win over Livingston as Cyriel Dessers and James Tavernier kept the pressure on Celtic at the top - while teenager Ross McCausland impressed on a dazzling first start.

It was a first-half packed with action and virtually all of it came in the Livingston box. On 16 minutes the travelling fans were celebrating after Connor Goldson bundled home after Leon Balogun headed a Tavernier free-kick back across goal, but after a VAR check, it was deemed that Cyriel Dessers had interfered from an offside position when he attempted to bring the ball down.

Just minutes later the lively McCausland drove into the box and won Gers a penalty. Some quick footwork from the youngster bamboozled the home defence and there were shouts in the home ranks he went down too easy under George's challenge. It was given, but there was a sense of justice done among the Livi ranks when Tavernier, famously clinical from 12 yards, blasted his spot-kick off the post and wide.

Yet any relief David Martindale was feeling didn't last long. Just as it felt like it was going to be one of those days for Rangers, they finally found the breakthrough and it was Dessers, who had been a handful with his runs in behind. He pounced on Tom Lawrence's brilliant through ball, picked his moment and finished well past George, Sean Kelly's valiant attempt at a last-ditch block unable to stop it crossing the line.

Rangers had another goal ruled out before half-time when McCausland followed up a Dessers strike on the rebound. This time it was ref Steven McLean who made the call on the pitch after Abdallah Sima was adjudged to have fouled Christian Montano in the buildup and the VAR room agreed after a short stoppage in play.
