Coronation Street star 'sad' as he 'confirms' exit of Peter Barlow co-star Chris Gascoyne

Coronation Street star Bill Fellows appears to have confirmed the exit of one of the ITV soap's most-loved stars. Fans were already under the impression that Chris Gascoyne would be leaving the show at some point this year as Peter Barlow.

Chris first appeared as Peter in 2000 during Corrie's 40th anniversary live episode. He then left the role in 2003 and returned in 2007 for a brief stint before returning full-time in 2008. In January 2014 it was confirmed that Chris would be leaving once again, but the following year he did reprise the role for two episodes for the funeral of Deirdre Barlow, played by Anne Kirkbride.

It was then revealed in 2016 that Peter would be making a return to Weatherfield, with Chris remaining in the role ever since. But his latest planned exit was confirmed by the actor himself to Metro.co.uk in July.

He said that Peter Barlow 'is very close to his heart,' with a Coronation Street spokesperson confirming to the publication that the door is 'left open' meaning the 55-year-old could return in the future. Since the news was revealed, fans have been speculating about how Peter may depart Weatherfield.

In the meantime, Corrie's Stu Carpenter actor Bill has admitted that he is sad about Chris' looming exit from the ITV soap, saying he's keen to film scenes with the actor and soap legend Bill Roache before he moves on from the programme.

Speaking to The Mirror, Bill said: "I've already had scenes with Ken played by Bill Roache, which is great. There's loads of characters I'd like to do a scene with. I really do like working with Bill I have to say. A very good friend of mine who I've had very little to do
