Coronation Street star Tony Maudsley teases 'big changes' as he introduces new character

Coronation Street star Tony Maudsley has said 'big changes' are afoot as he gave a new co-star a huge welcome. The actor, who plays George Shuttleworth in the ITV soap, took to social media to share a picture of himself and his Todd Grimshaw co-star Gareth Pierce alongside a newbie.

The picture showed the trio posing outside Shuttleworht's funeral parlour, all suited and booted in their black attire. "There are big changes afoot at Shuttleworth's next week. Meet Lurch!" Tony captioned the snap to his fans and followers.

And while George smiled for the camera with his new co-worker, Todd didn't look as thrilled as he looked to eye up his replacement. Spoilers for next week's Corrie have already revealed that Todd will be left having second thoughts about leaving Shuttleworth's for rivals RestEady.

As Todd gets ready for work, George makes waspish remarks about RestEasy. When Troy tells Todd that he’s promised a client a service they can’t deliver and he’d like him to break the bad news, Todd paints on a smile, secretly dreading it. But later, when Todd admits that RestEasy isn’t for him, Mary Taylor urges him to talk to George and soon, Todd goes to ask George for his old job back.

Responding to Tony's new post, actor Callum Burbidge replied: "I can’t wait for this to come out! It was a pleasure working with you @tonymaudsley1." Meanwhile, Gareth quipped: "'Are you trolling me, George…?' alongside a crying laughing emoji. There Corrie co-star Sally Carman-Duttine also replied: "Love this pic," alongside a string of crying laughing emojis.

And Tony's fans and followers were also quick to respond. @nancyhovhanesian said:
