Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd shares previously unheard detail from soap audition that he almost missed
Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd has shared a previously unheard detail about his audition for the show that was almost thrown into doubt - by Manchester United. The actor is famous for playing David Platt in the ITV soap, having joined aged 12.
Jack was actually recast in the role of Gail's Platt son, as he was originally portrayed by Thomas Ormson until 2000. But the now-35-year-old has since gone on to play a part in the soap's biggest storylines as the much-loved character.
Before Corrie, actor Jack, from Pudsey in West Yorkshire, started out in Yorkshire drama Where the Heart Is. He had also done stints in theatre and even appeared alongside on-screen sister Tina O'Brien, who plays Sarah Barlow, in Cutting It, where they also appeared as siblings, before he stepped foot on the cobbles

However, Jack may not have gotten the role if he hadn't made it to the then Granada Studios in Quay Street. Speaking on the On The Sofa podcast he hosts with Corrie co-stars Colson Smith and Ben Price, he said: "My final audition... I got to Manchester Picadilly and I remember Manchester was rammed.
"Me and my mum were like, 'what is going on?' and Man United had just won the treble and it was the parade. So I had to get from Picadilly past Deansgate when basically, literally all United fans were going berserk because they'd just won the treble. And I was like, 'I have to get to Granada for my audition!'"
Jack then went to share another detail about what happened when he did eventually get to the former studios. "I went in first. I were only in for like 10
