Connor Goldson trolled on Rangers exit flight as sarky snipe misses the target before departing defender catches on

Departing Connor Goldson was told Rangers doesn't work out for everyone but fans have rounded against the petty dig aimed at him on his exit flight out of Scotland.

The 31-year-old has cemented his lofty Ibrox status after six seasons and 300 appearances in Light Blue as a punter on his flight filmed him and attempted to talk him down. Goldson is heading out to Germany for a medical before joining up with Aris Limassol at their pre-season training camp in Austria. A passenger states: "Unlucky big man. Sometimes Rangers doesn't work out for you, unlucky". A clutch of fans took to social media to disagree with that claim, with even his most ardent critics insisting he deserves better than being harangued on an aeroplane with a dig that's missing a punchline.

But that cutting remark – which ended swiftly once Goldson caught wind of being filmed – appears an ill-fit to describe a player who was integral to the side which reached the Europa League Final and featured prominently in a side which went undefeated en route to the Scottish Premiership title in 2021. Goldson is on the verge of joining Aris Limassol as he brings down the curtain on his Ibrox career. The former Brighton defender was integral under Steven Gerrard and had key roles under Gio Van Bronckhorst, Michael Beale and Philippe Clement.

Goldson was filmed before boarding the flight with five suitcases as he heads off for a new adventure. And he isn't the only player heading for the exit door with Sam Lammers, Ianis Hagi and Jose Cifuentes on the verge of leaving.

And they could be joined by James Tavernier and Todd Cantwell with the former wanted by Trabzonspor and the latter handing in a transfer request.
