Philippe Clement will have to take 'smacks in the face' to get Rangers firing amid revolving transfer door

Gordon Strachan believes the huge overhaul of players at Rangers this summer is the biggest challenge facing Philippe Clement and reckons the Belgian might have to take a 'few smacks in the face' before he gets the Light Blues firing on all cylinders.

Clement picked up the Premier Sports Cup within months of his arrival at Ibrox last year but suffered a disappointing end to the campaign after missing out to Celtic in both the Premiership and the Scottish Cup. In a bid to chase the top honours this season, the former Genk and Monaco boss has revamped his squad with nine signings, while the likes of Connor Goldson, John Lundstram, Borna Barisic and Ryan Jack have moved on.

The Gers made a underwhelming start to the new league campaign with a goalless draw against Hearts at Tynecastle last Saturday, with Clement's team selection and tactics coming under fire. Rangers take on Dynamo Kyiv tonight in the first leg of their crucial Champions League third round qualifier in Poland, with the return fixture coming at Hampden next week.

Ex Celtic hero Strachan signed Clement for Coventry as a player during his time as Coventry boss and argues that the 50-year-old is coping well with Rangers' current predicament.
