Cody Rhodes: WWE believe there's a ‘good chance’ he rejoins as AEW deal expires

He may have been one of the founding members of AEW, but reports state that there’s a chance Cody Rhodes could return to WWE.

Cody Rhodes left WWE in 2016, and went on to become one of the biggest names in professional wrestling outside of the company with his work for ROH, NJPW and on the independent scene.

Rhodes was thrust into a different stratosphere with the launch of AEW, becoming one of the figureheads for the second biggest promotion in the world.

However, that could all be about to change, with Rhodes potentially returning to WWE.

For those unaware, Cody Rhodes’ contract with AEW expired either at the end of December or right at the beginning of January.

Since then, Rhodes has been working without a contract with AEW, and his situation with Tony Khan’s promotion has not yet been sorted.

This has opened the door for WWE to try and swoop in, as Dave Meltzer discussed on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio.

Meltzer stressed that many people expected the situation to be wrapped up by now, which has put Rhodes’ future into question.

Many people expected him to re-sign with AEW, but Meltzer notes that people within WWE think there’s a good chance that he re-signs with them.

Meltzer even explains that bringing Rhodes back into the company is something that has been discussed within WWE:

“He has not signed [with AEW], and in WWE, they thought that there was a good chance, or a chance, something. It was definitely something that was talked about today in certain circles – about the potential of something happening there.”

It’s important to note that it is not being reported that Cody Rhodes is definitely going to chose WWE over AEW.
