Cody Rhodes once said it was 'unlikely' he'd ever return to WWE as old comments emerge

Cody Rhodes is said to be rejoining WWE soon, but he once said he’d be “unlikely” to ever make a return to the company.

The wrestling world was shocked by the news this week that Cody Rhodes, despite being a key figurehead for the promotion, had left AEW.

Not just that, but reports indicated that the 36-year-old was actually in talks with WWE about a shock return to the company.

Given that he was a former AEW Executive, many fans suspected that Cody would never return to WWE, and it has emerged that he also shared in those thoughts.

Back in 2018, before the inception of AEW, Cody was asked by a fan about the possibility of him making a return to WWE.

The former Intercontinental Champion didn’t completely rule out working for Vince McMahon again, but did say that it was “unlikely”.

Cody explained that he has a lot of love for WWE, noting that they raised him, but suggested he enjoyed doing things how he wanted to, saying it was impossible for him to “take direction”.

This doesn’t mean that Cody was lying when he said that he’d be unlikely to return to WWE, as that’s probably how he felt at the time.

However, this tweet was before the inception of AEW, and a lot has changed within the landscape of the industry over the last couple of years.

As of right now, there is no word on when Cody will exactly be returning to WWE, but reports have indicated that he could be filming content for this weekend ahead of a WrestleMania
