Chiefs coach after 4-0 thrashing by Sundowns: 'We were outplayed in all departments'

Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane said he had no excuse for their 4-0 hammering at the hands of a resurgent Mamelodi Sundowns at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday.

Zwane's side conceded two goals in each half, with the first two being defensive errors, while the last two came from excellent counter-pressing and counter-attacking from Sundowns.

Chiefs had their moments, including a missed penalty by Khama Billiat, but Zwane felt it wasn't their day and Sundowns outplayed them.

"We don't want to make any excuses. We were outplayed in all departments and we were not ourselves," Zwane said.

"We were a bit better in the second half, where we had a bit of offensive attack. If Reeve had scored that one, it could have changed the game altogether.

"We couldn't capitalise and we got punished. We also had the penalty that we missed and from there, they created three or four good chances.

"We only played for 15 minutes in the second half, where we dominated a bit, but we lost it again."

While Chiefs have gone through some stages of difficulty through their various coaches, they've so far avoided being on the receiving end of beatings from Sundowns.

That has come round for them this season, with Zwane admitting that with them being in a developmental stage, they were going to be on the end of hiding at some point.

"These things happen to the best teams in the world and we're trying to get some combinations while bringing in some new players," Zwane said.

"Judging by the way we exerted ourselves today, we still have a long way to go and it was good that we were exposed like this.
