Margate player-boss Ben Greenhalgh on teenage Fulham loanee goalkeeper Dino Kaiser, 2-0 weekend win against Sheppey United and this weekend’s home derby against Deal Town
Teenage goalkeeper Dino Kaiser enjoyed an excellent Margate debut on Saturday.
Kaiser kept a clean sheet in Gate’s 2-0 Isthmian South East home success over Sheppey United, having joined on loan for the rest of this season from Fulham last week after James Batt dislocated his knee in the 2-1 triumph at AFC Croydon Athletic.
Player-boss Ben Greenhalgh is pleased to have renewed acquaintances with the Premier League Cottagers - with wideman Martial Godo having moved from Hartsdown Park to Fulham in 2022.
Godo then switched to French side Strasbourg in a multi-million pound transfer last summer.
“It was an interesting one,” said Greenhalgh on signing Bosnia & Herzegovina youth-team international Kaiser, who turned 19 on Monday.
“When we lost James the previous Saturday, it became a case of us spending Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, trying to bring in a new goalie. But the Dino one came about on Wednesday.
“When you look at Dino - someone signed by Fulham from QPR for £200,000 - his quality is there to see. Dino had been offered to Folkestone so I spoke to Jay (Saunders, Invicta’s boss).
“When Martial Godo went to Fulham from Margate, Jay was the manager at that time. In reality, Fulham made £6million on Martial Godo in the summer.
“Full-time clubs need non-league clubs but, when you’re in Kent, you don’t have many clubs that you can really connect with.
“There’s only really Gillingham. Bromley are doing very well, as well, but whether they’re classed as being in Kent or not, I don’t know.
“That’s why it’s so good to have that connection with a full-time club - and a Premier League club, as well.”
Gate’s success over Sheppey came after four successive league losses at home.
