Celtic transfer news latest as Jakub Kaluzinski fee hiked after Real Valladolid up the ante

Real Valladolid are set to up their offer for Celtic-linked Jakub Kaluzinski.

The Polish midfielder is currently with Antalyaspor and the Premiership champions have been monitoring the 21-year-old for a year. Reports in Turkey claim a bid could still arrive from Parkhead, although the Hoops pursuit of Paulo Bernardo makes that unlikely for now, with a deal to bring the Benfica midfielder back to Glasgow on a permanent basis edging closer. A fee of £3.5million has been agreed with the Lisbon giants and now Celtic are thrashing out the details in order to get a deal done.

That has handed the initiative to Valladolid, although they are having to fork out more cash in order to land Kaluzinski. A €2.5million bid has already been rejected, with Antalyaspor holding out for €4million. Sporx claim a fresh attempt will be made by the La Liga outfit, who appear determined to get their man before any other interest can become concrete.

Meanwhile, Brendan Rodgers is excited for new goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel to get the "Celtic experience." The pair are toegther again after their FA Cup wining spell at Leicester City, with the experienced stopper penning a one-year deal to replace Joe hart between the sticks.

Rodgers is counting on Schmeichel's experience to be crucial at he looks to defend the League and Cup double won last season. he said: “We needed someone who can support and help this young group of players and there’s no-one better than Kasper for that. We’re delighted and I’m delighted for him that he is going to get the Celtic experience which is a really incredible experience. Celtic are a massive club with a small family inside it. Yeah, I’m delighted he’s here.”
