Rangers transfer news latest as Connor Goldson megabucks Steven Gerrard snub revealed and Ibrox flop finally nears exit

Aleksey Shpilevsky has revealed Connor Goldson turned down a big money Rangers reunion with Steven Gerrard in order to join Aris Limassol

Goldson departed Ibrox in £1.5 million deal last month, despite serious interest from his title-winning former boss. But he preferred the ambitious approach from Aris, and their Belorussian manager Shpilevsky has praised the 31-year-old for knocking back the Saudi millions, although he'll be without him for a couple of weeks as Goldson nurses an injury.

He said: "Connor Goldson is one of the biggest ever transfers for both Aris and for Cypriot football. I spoke to him first after we played against Rangers in Limassol and we had a chat and he was very humble. But I couldn't imagine we'd ever get Goldson. When we first spoke to him about coming here, one of the first questions he asked was whether we had a team ready to challenge for trophies.

"Connor Goldson said no to Saudi Arabia and to working with his old boss Steven Gerrard in favour of coming to Aris for less money. It shows how hungry he is to be a winner here. And already the move has been great. You can see in training how good he is and he is also very good at helping the younger players."

Meanwhile, Rangers flop Jose Cifuentes is set to arrive in Greece to seal another loan move out of Ibrox after finally cutting through Brazilian red tape. The Ecuadorian midfielder first exited Rangers in February on loan to Cruzeiro, but he managed to make just three starts in Brazil's Seria A and was bombed out of the first team.

He's set to move to Aris Salonika in Greece on loan until the end of the year with an obligation to buy, which has been reported as being set at £4 million. However, although Cifuentes agreed terms with the club
