Rangers transfer news latest as Ianis Hagi stance shifts and why Philippe Clement 'needs funds'

Despite needing funds to bankroll further incoming transfers, Ian Hagi could be allowed to leave Rangers for free this summer, according to a report.

The Romanian international, who spent last season on loan at La Liga outfit Alaves, still has a year left to run on his Ibrox contract but isn't part of Philippe Clement's plans going forward. He's been earmarked as a potential sale to help boost the Belgian's transfer kitty with the Gers still on the lookout for a midfielder and a striker. It had been thought Hagi was close to a £3million return to Fiorentina, but there has been little developments on that front.

And now, despite impressing for his country at Euro 2024, Hagi could be allowed to depart for nothing, according to Tuttomercatoweb. That could help drum up more interest in the attacker, whilst also getting him off the wage bill to free up more space in the budget.

Meanwhile former Gers hero Alan Hutton has warned Clement needs funds to keep pace with Celtic and to avoid "standing still" at all costs. That means Champions League revenue will be vital, with Rangers still on track to make the playoff round after a 1-1 draw with Dynamo Kyiv in Poland this week.

Hutton said: "It is a huge part of Rangers moving forward. I know it is going to be really difficult getting into the Champions League, they have some big games ahead, first and foremost next week.

"But you have to keep pace with the likes of Celtic who are in the Champions League year after year. They are talking £40million (for qualifying), I think you need that to reinvest.
