Rangers transfer news latest as Todd Cantwell replacement needed amid Tom Lawrence doubts and flop pictured touching down

Former Rangers star Alan Hutton believes Philippe Clement needs “more experience” in midfield as he raised concerns over whether Tom Lawrence could fill the void left by Todd Cantwell if there is no way back for the former Norwich City man.

Cantwell handed in a transfer request earlier in the summer and is completely out of the picture despite Clement saying he would never never rule out a return if there is a change of heart from the 26-year-old playmaker. Rangers new boy Vaclav Cerny netted his first goal for the Light Blues in the win over Motherwell on Saturday with the Czech star on loan from Wolfsburg and Clement praised his display. The former FC Twente winger has added further experience after kicking off the transfer window with project player signings.

Hutton looked over the business with the clock ticking on the transfer window and he told Football Insider: “In midfield they need a bit more experience. Robin Propper coming in is a good signing, the FC Twente captain, he’ll be the replacement for Goldson.

“The rest depends on if anyone leaves. You look at the Cantwell situation, if he was to go, I think Tom Lawrence has come in and done really well. He had a great pre-season but can he manage to play every single game? It’s going to be difficult for him.”

Meanwhile, Ibrox flop Jose Cifuentes has been pictured touching down in Greece ahead of his move to Aris Thessaloniki.
