SFA vs SKY fury in FULL as broadcaster unleashes over 2 key issues while Hampden chiefs come out swinging

The Scottish Football Association blasted back in the row over the plug being pulled on Hibs boss Nick Montgomery being mic’d up by Sky Sports for the Edinburgh derby.

The broadcasters had agreed a deal with Hibs and Hearts to go behind the scenes in the clash – with armchair viewers set to hear from the Hibs boss during the game as well as getting a pitch side view from a body cam pinned on coach Sergio Raimundo.

But Hampden chief executive Ian Maxwell stepped in at the last minute to block the bid – insisting the move was against the rules. Record Sport columnist and Sky pundit Chris Sutton branded the decision an embarrassment while Kris Boyd insisted the punters were left short changed. Hampden officials insisted they had to pull the mic plan as it was in breach of governing body IFAB’s rules on electronic devices during games.

Maxwell raised concerns towards the end of last week over the impact the broadcast could have on the match referee and fourth officials. There were also worries communicated revealing the manager’s tactics on air could have a knock-on effect on live betting firms around the globe. But Record Sport understands Sky have been left furious as several safeguards had been put in place to protect officials and management staff.

The broadcaster had been putting plans in place for months and having received the green light from the SPFL, they were confident the derby screening would be a success. But after days of wrangling they were forced to back down – with pundits blasting the SFA for missing a trick.
