Celtic losing title to Rangers would be 'embarrassing' as Butland England return talk sparks Hart Hotline debate

England boss Gareth Southgate is keeping close tabs on Rangers keeper Jack Butland ahead of the Euros.

But Celtic fans reckons the Auld Enemy should be looking across the city to their No1. Joe Hart has taken some stick at times this season but has hit form at a crucial time to help the Hoops secure vital points in recent weeks. And Stephen Mulhern emailed: “It’s interesting that since Southgate has seemingly indicated that he is considering recalling Butland. Hart’s recent performances have been world class. He’s sending a ‘don’t you forget about me’ message to Southgate. Celtic are fortunate to have England’s third most capped keeper and at only 36 a new contract must be forthcoming when you consider that Lisbon Lion Ronnie Simpson was the same age when Celtic lifted the European Cup.”

Meanwhile Neil Renton, Leith, said: “I had to check the date that it wasn’t April 1. Why else would John Brown claim Jack Butland should be the No.1 goalie at Manchester United? John himself would have similar stats to Butland if he took a stint in goals for the Ibrox club. Being the Rangers goalie is an absolute breeze.”

Celtic fans are feeling cheerier in general after Sunday’s Scottish Cup win at St Mirren. Steve McSherry, Uddingston, said: “After a good performance against St Mirren with a makeshift defence, I feel that when we have our missing players back we will ease towards the title. It would be embarrassing for Scottish football and Celtic if the other side were to sneak it.
