Can Kobbie Mainoo still play for Ghana after England debut? International rules explained
Kobbie Mainoo made his England debut on Saturday night, coming on as a substitute in the 75th minute in the 1-0 defeat to Brazil.
Despite making his England debut, Kobbie Mainoo could still switch international allegiance and represent Ghana.
Under FIFA rules, a player can switch international allegiance provided they have played no more than three senior competitive games for a particular national team before the age of 21.
There is also no limit at any age on playing friendlies. It means 18-year-old Mainoo is still eligible to choose to play for Ghana at a later date, as long as he still meets the criteria.

Mainoo was born in Stockport and has represented England at youth level as well as making his senior debut on Saturday. The Manchester United midfielder qualifies to play for Ghana through his parents. Therefore, should he wish, Mainoo has the opportunity to switch international allegiance.
Prior to making his England debut it had been reported that Ghana had been paying close attention to Mainoo's rise and were keen to persuade him to represent them instead of England.
A member of Ghana's FA, Randy Abbey, said: “"The Ghana Football Association is interested in monitoring, attracting, and persuading all eligible talents for its various national teams. Kobbie is definitely one of these incredible talents, and the association would love to work with him."
However, despite Ghana's interest in the United youngster, Mainoo is expected to feature again for England tonight as they host Belgium in a friendly match at Wembley.
