Calum Butcher lands unanimous Celtic penalty verdict as furious Stuart Kettlewell pointed to 'poor' Motherwell decision

Raging Stuart Kettlewell has been told that referee Steven McLean got both penalty calls right during Motherwell's draw with Celtic.

Man in the middle McLean had a busy afternoon at Celtic Park as he handed the home side two spot-kicks during the 1-1 draw. Striker Hyeongyu Oh was chopped down by Bevis Mugabi inside the six-yard box in the second half but Luis Palma would not be able to make the most of the opportunity as he saw his spot-kick saved by Liam Kelly. With the Scottish Premiership leaders struggling to break the deadlock, Mikey Johnston went down under pressure from Calum Butcher.

David Dickinson in the VAR room would step in to send whistler McLean to the monitor to review the flashpoint - and he would award a penalty to Brendan Rodgers men. This time David Turnbull would make no mistake from 12-yards out to hand Celtic a late advantage - before Jon Obika headed a late equaliser to earn the Steelmen a point to take back to Lanarkshire.

But after the full-time whistle Kettlewell was left unhappy by the second penalty decision - as he declared Butcher had not pulled Ireland cap Johnston in the box. But Sportscene duo Neil McCann and Callum Davidson backed the officials over both of the key calls.

Former Rangers star McCann said: "I don't think you can argue on either penalty decision. I think both were the right call. Mugabi is really unlucky there, and when Kelly goes down and makes the save he maybe comes away with the ball. But, he has taken Oh out the equation with quite a cynical challenge in the end."

Moving on to the second penalty, McCann continued: "The disappointing thing for Calum Butcher when he watches this is he concedes a penalty with a poor decision. I don't think Mikey Johnston is getting
