Stuart Kettlewell blasts 'incredibly soft' Celtic penalty as raging boss claims VAR failed Motherwell

Stuart Kettlewell has torn in to VAR for an 'incredibly soft' penalty awarded to Celtic and reckons Motherwell are being failed by the technology.

It was a dramatic afternoon at Celtic Park as Brendan Rodgers men were awarded two spot kicks, first when Oh was scythed down by Bevis Mugabi inside the six yard, before Luis Palma failed to convert from twelve yards with Liam Kelly making the big save. Before the 90 minutes were up the Scottish Premiership champions were awarded another spot kick when Mikey Johnston's jersey was tugged by Well defender Callum Butcher. A Jon Obika late header brought a valuable point for Kettlewell's men.

But the Motherwell boss is irked by referees and VAR officials as he reckons Hoops defender Greg Taylor majorly got away with one when he was booked for a foul on Blair Spittal, who he claims now has a 'huge gash' on his shin. Kettlewell took umbrage with a few decisions at Parkhead and named others in recent weeks that he believes has VAR failing his side.

He said: “[It is frustrating] if the officials are telling me something when I go and sit for two-and-a-half hours with chief executives and managers when that exact incident came up in one of the clips. There were conversations around whether the player was going to get on the end of it, and whether every contact in the box is a penalty.

"From the angle I’ve seen Calum Butcher is adamant he didn’t pull the jersey. His palm is resting on the waist. I argued the point on this the other day and my understanding was that that wouldn’t be given as a penalty. But, lo and behold, when Steven McLean goes over to the monitor we all know what’s coming at that point.
