Gio van Bronckhorst incurs Celtic wrath on live TV as ex Rangers boss accused of 'bizarre' Parkhead anthem interruption

Former Rangers boss Gio van Bronckhorst was criticised by Dutch football fans for interrupting the rendition of 'You'll Never Walk Alone' by Celtic fans during the clash with Feyenoord.

The De Kuip faithful were left disappointed following the full-time whistle when Gustaf Lagerbielke scored a late winner for the Scottish Premiership champions - shortly after Yankuba Minteh had cancelled out Luis Palma's strike from the penalty spot in the final Group E clash. But Feyenoord fans were already irked before a ball was even kicked after a surprise interruption from Van Bronckhorst and the RTL 7 punditry team.

Humberto Tan, Theo Janssen and former Feyenoord boss Van Bronckhorst were previewing the game as Arne Slot's side looked to prepare for their Europa League campaign with a positive result - as the Hoops' support broke out in their iconic pre-match sing-song. But the trio continued to discuss the upcoming match rather than allow viewers to hear the anthem being belted out.

That has sparked heavy criticism online of the trio. One fan posted to X: "Impressive You'll Never Walk Alone at Celtic Park and in the studio they are talking over it. Then you don't understand it."

Another chimed in: "This is bizarre. Just laughing and talking about You'll Never Walk Alone."

Van Bronckhorst also offered stinging criticism of Arne Slot's side after the full-time whistle after Lagerbielke nodded in the winner. "As a defender you should never jump if you cannot have the ball, because then you are gone. And then at the back post they are also understaffed..."
