Callum McGregor hammer blow as Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou reveals 'fairly significant' injury

Celtic captain Callum McGregor will visit a specialist to discover the full extent of a "fairly significant" knee injury but boss Ange Postecoglou warned he's facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

The captain trudged off in the first half in Germany as Ange Postecoglou 's team succumbed to a damaging 3-1 Champions League defeat against RB Leipzig. He was determined to play on and Postecoglou revealed he picked up the injury shortly prior to Leipzig's opener, before playing on for more than ten minutes when he was eventually replaced by Oliver Abildgaard.

That offered hope that the skipper would not miss a significant spell of action, but Postecoglou has revealed McGregor faces a long-term on the sidelines. Postecoglou told Sky Sports News: "He's off to see a specialist today, it's fairly significant. It wont be short-term. He's a fantastic player and beyond that, it's his influence on and off the field as a leader. There's not one person that can replace that, it will be a case of the other guys stepping up and filling the breach."

"Obviously he' is disappointed because he's such a big part of how we play our football and what we've created here so I know he'll be working hard, whatever the time line we get back. "
