Steve Hitchen 'set' to join Celtic as former Tottenham transfer guru in line to work with Ange Postecoglou

Celtic are reportedly close to hiring former Tottenham transfer guru Steve Hitchen.

The ex director of football and scout is claimed to have watched the Scottish Premiership champions last week as he looks to take up a new post in the game. The Scottish Sun say Celtic could work in an advisory role with manager Ange Postecoglou, with the pair having mutual friends.

It's suggested the appointment could also be with a view to keeping potential suitors away from the Aussie manager after he was linked with vacant Premier League posts over the past several weeks. Hitchens last worked as Tottenham's director of technical performance, re-joining the London club in 2017 having previously served as a scout. The ex-Blackburn Rovers player was credited with a role in bringing the likes of Luka Modric to Spurs before taking up a job at Liverpool, where he helped sign Luis Suarez.

Hitchens left Tottenham earlier in 2022 and was previously linked with a move to Everton. But now it appears he's bound for Glasgow and a role at Celtic Park.
