Emma Raducanu breaks silence after injury ends her 2022 season

Emma Raducanu has finally spoken on her latest tournament withdrawal, which has drawn an early close to her 2022 season.

The British number one was forced to retire from the Transylvania Open earlier this week due a wrist injury.

Her latest setback meant she was unable to make a single appearance at the tournament on the home soil of her Romanian-born father.

Raducanu reached the quarter-finals during her last time in Cluj-Napoca but she will now have to wait another year to attempt to improve on that result.

She was also hoping for a strong October to give her the opportunity to crack the world top 50 again, but these efforts are now also halted until the new year.

Raducanu also gave an update on her injury at the Nottingham Open. Visibly in pain with her left side, she was forced to withdraw in the first round after receiving a medical timeout. During a post match interview, the Brit described it as “a freak injury” that required a follow-up scan.

So when it comes to informing supporters on her injury status, she is usually very vocal and provides as much information as she can.

However, it seems as though her withdrawal from the Transylvania Open has perhaps been a bigger blow than other retirements this year.

The 19-year-old did not give an interview on her latest injury. But she has since posted an Instagram story with a picture of herself walking off the court, with the words: “Sad to miss my Cluj friends this year,” alongside a sad face emoji.
