Callum Brittain transfer set to trigger Blackburn Rovers exit as Barnsley boss confirms interest

Michael Duff has confirmed that Blackburn Rovers are in talks to sign Callum Brittain from Barnsley which could trigger the loan exit of James Brown.

As reported by on Wednesday, the 24-year-old will become Jon Dahl Tomasson's first signing. Providing any late hitches, the deal could be confirmed this week.

Rovers have been admirers of Brittain in previous windows and have now made their move to strengthen the right-back slot. Whilst Tomasson wouldn't comment precisely on the defender, Duff admitted Rovers are speaking to the player.

“They are in talks but I genuinely don’t know where it’s up to," he said after Barnsley's friendly at Harrogate Town on Wednesday night. "I imagine there might be more news tomorrow.”

Brittain's arrival will allow James Brown to leave on loan. Tomasson confirmed after the win at Hartlepool United that the defender is going to go out for first-team football.

“As I’ve said many times, I’m very boring. I coach the team and try and make the players better and the club need to provide that," he said.

“It’s quite simple, and of course, hopefully, if we have players coming in here there will be players who go out, which is also normal. Of course, at the moment we have (players in) that position, if he (Brittain) should come in, then there could be players on loan.”

"Let's see, he is one of the players who can go away and find something else," Tomasson added when specifically asked by Lanc Live about Brown. "I think so (he'll go), he's a great player and a good boy."
