Burnley 1-0 Swansea City: Late penalty denies brave Swans point at Turf Moor
This one felt particularly cruel for Swnasea City.
Despite their patchy run of recent form, many expect this Burnley to be there or thereabouts at the top of the table come the end of the season. After 92 minutes, Swansea had taken them all the way.
On another day, Luke Williams might well have left to toast an impressive second consecutive win on the road. Indeed, Swansea certainly had their opportunities to add to the pressure on Clarets boss Scott Parker, who had previously guided his side to just one win in their last six.
Liam Cullen saw a header cleared off the line, while fellow second-half substitute Florian Bianchini might well be wondering how he didn't hit the target just over 10 minutes later.
Williams will certainly feel his side deserved a least a point, but that too was snatched away when skipper Matt Grimes was penalised for a handball deep into stoppage-time.
Jay Rodriguez slotted home for his first goal of 2024, and the relief that crackled around Turf Moor told you everything you needed to know about the quality of Swansea's efforts.
This was, of course, the first match since the announcement that majority shareholders Steve Kaplan and Jason Levien would be selling their stakes in the club, in a move that will likely see Andy Coleman's power elevated to another level.
It remains to be seen what the future will hold, but having talked up his side's chances of competing with the top six in this division, Williams might well feel this showing further demonstrated the potential of this side.
Swansea were competitive for most of the afternoon, although former Claret Lawrence Vigouroux was undeniably the busier of the two goalkeepers.
