Bridgend unexploded bomb discovery live updates as roads closed and supermarkets evacuated

Police are dealing with an unexploded bomb which has closed several roads in Bridgend. Nearby supermarkets, a building site, and offices have all been evacuated as a result and members of the public have been advised to avoid the area.

Tremains Road and Cheapside are currently closed with locals being told to avoid several roads and shops in the vicinity. Heavy traffic is reported in the area.

A statement from South Wales Police on Thursday afternoon said: "We were called just before 1.10pm this afternoon with a report of an unexploded ordnance device having been found in Cheapside, Bridgend.

"As a precaution Tremains Road and Cheapside have been closed and we are advising the public to avoid Brackla Street from Castle Bingo down to Wilko's as well as Plumb Centre, Papa Johns, and the Honda dealership.

"We have also evacuated the following premises: Aldi; Asda; Brackla House; and the building site on Cheapside, again as a precaution."
