M6 traffic LIVE updates after lanes closed and queues build following crash

Drivers heading south from Greater Manchester are facing delays on the M6 following a crash.

Two lanes of traffic were closed on the southbound carriageway between junctions 19 at Knutsford and 18 at Holmes Chapel this morning (November 6).

It follows a two-car crash, National Highways says. One lane has since reopened.

Queues are building up towards Knutsford services, Google traffic data shows.

A post from the Inrix traffic monitoring service said: "Two lanes closed and queueing traffic due to accident on M6 Southbound from J19 A556 (Knutsford) to J18 A54 Middlewich Road (Middlewich / Holmes Chapel)."

Lanes three and four were closed following the collision, but the closure is now down to the fourth lane.

A National Highways North West spokesperson said: "One (of four) lanes is closed on the M6 southbound between J19 (Tabley) and J18 (Holmes Chapel) due to a collision involving two cars.

"Recovery is en route. Delays in excess of 20 minutes above usual journey time, just under three miles of congestion."

National Highways says the closure is now down to one lane, with 20-minute queues on the motorway.

A spokesperson said:
