Brett Hodgson lauds his gritty Hull FC side after back-to-back home wins

Brett Hodgson hailed his side’s ability to grind out another win to end the Easter period on a high against Catalans Dragons. The Black and Whites had to dig deep against the French side to claim a 14-8 win at the MKM Stadium.

Tries came from Jordan Lane and Chris Satae in the first half and although FC were kept scoreless in the second they had enough to edge out last season League Leaders’ Shield winners and claim a big Super League scalp. Having seen off Warrington Wolves on Monday, FC have picked up four points in a week, responding well to their subpar Good Friday performance at Craven Park.

“We’re just really happy to grind out a performance,” he said. “I thought it was a high quality game, there weren’t a lot of errors in the contest.

“I think we probably gave up a little bit too much late in the second half but tonight was about getting the victory in our third game in nine days, it was difficult conditions but we played well. I thought the contest was excellent, both teams were probably a bit conservative and could have thrown it around a bit more but the third game in short succession is a war of attrition. Our game plan was executed well and thankfully we got the victory.”

The result means Hull now sit fourth in the Super League table, level on points with their nearest and dearest rivals Hull KR but Hodgson isn’t reading too much into that position at present.

“You’re aware of where we could have been today, we could have been as low as eighth had we not performed today,” he added. “Ultimately it doesn’t matter where we are now, it matters where we are at the end of the year and we have to keep progressing.”
