Brett Hodgson believes narrow win over Warrington Wolves on Easter Monday is one they can build off moving forward. The Black and Whites were forced to dig deep against Daryl Powell’s side but managed to get over the line with an 18-16 win, courtesy of tries from Jamie Shaul, Brad Fash and Manu Ma’u.
Having lost their previous three games in all competitions, the result bucked that losing streak and ensured FC remain in fifth position in the Super League table. Hull will only train two or three times before their next game against high flyers Catalans Dragons, but Hodgson has challenged his side to replicate that desire and determination in the coming weeks and months.
“As I’ve just said to the players, we have to understand that we have to do that every week,” Hodgson said after the game on Monday. “We’re not a team that can just turn up, score points and win early, we have to make sure that we build and put the opposition under mental and physical fatigue and I thought we did that.
“That’s possibly why we scored in the last five minutes because of that fatigue that we put into the opposition. Every game there is going to be options that you don’t take perfectly and we had that again today but there was something about the players that we were willing to do it for the full 80 minutes today and that’s really pleasing for us.”
He added about the win: "They’re all big, but the response is what we were after and we got that. We haven’t been far off, our effort has been good but out execution has been poor the last couple of weeks. Today we executed much better and we played the long game and that’s what we spoke about.
