Brett Hodgson is confident still have plenty ‘more to give’ as they aim to build on their strong start to the Super League season. The Black and Whites have won four of their opening six games and currently sit just two points behind joint league leaders Catalans Dragons, Wigan Warriors and St Helens.
Big wins have come against Salford Red Devils and Leeds Rhinos, while Hodgson’s side have had to show a large amount of character and determination to see off both Wakefield Trinity and Huddersfield Giants. Those results have seen Hull silence a few critics on their way to fifth in the table.
However, the head coach admits the loss to Castleford Tigers in round four still rankles, and he expects to see even more from his side moving forward.
“Yes,” Hodgson said when asked if he could have realistically hoped for more over the first six games. “I’m still disappointed with the Cas performance but we learned a lot from that game.
“I think the boys were hurting from that performance. We talked about that fact that we had to become a team that did it the hard way and get rewards at the back end of the game and I thought we showed that against Huddersfield.
“We’re in a reasonable position on the ladder but there’s more to give from us.”
Hodgson will expect to see a host of key men return from injury and suspension in the coming weeks to bolster his ranks. Carlos Tuimavave should be fit in time to take on Sheffield Eagles on Saturday, while both Kane Evans and Luke Gale will be eligible to face Wigan Warriors next week after serving suspensions.
