Hull FC set for acid test at Wigan Warriors as in-form Black and Whites target consistency

Hull FC will hope to continue their fine form when they face Wigan Warriors at the DW Stadium on Thursday evening (kick off 8pm).

Things appear to be looking up for right now. Players are slowly but surely returning from injury and suspension and having won their last three outings, they travel to the DW Stadium full of belief.

We’ve seen Brett Hodgson’s side see off the challenges of Leeds Rhinos, Huddersfield Giants and Sheffield Eagles over the last few weeks and as they go in search of their fourth straight victory, they certainly look capable of shrugging off the inconsistent label they have been given at the start of the year. Thursday’s clash, though, represents a step up as FC test themselves against the joint-table toppers.

As such, one way or another, we stand to learn a great deal about this FC side in Greater Manchester. A result would show us that Hull are capable of mixing it with the best the Super League has to offer this season, that they have the skill, temperament and composure needed to succeed in those big league games.

FC probably faltered in matches of a similar stature last season under Hodgson but victory this week demonstrates growth within the group. It would also help to change how the club are perceived around the competition.

Of course, the season is less than two months old, but edging out Wigan helps to erase lingering doubts about the Black and Whites’ ability and silverware credentials. A defeat, though, would give Hodgson a clear idea of how far his side are from being able to re-enter the Super League’s top bracket.
