Man Utd have concern over appointing Thomas Tuchel from Chelsea
Manchester United are reluctant to push ahead with a move for Thomas Tuchel due to Chelsea’s takeover bid, according to reports.
United are searching for a new manager to replace Ralf Rangnick at the end of the season, with Mauricio Pochettino and Erik ten Hag the two frontrunners to land the job.
However, United have also been urged to consider an attempt to lure Tuchel to Old Trafford due to the uncertainty at Chelsea after Roman Abramovich’s sanction.
Tuchel has insisted that he will remain at Chelsea until the end of the season but his long-term future depends on the club’s new owners.
According to The Sun, Tuchel was considered as a candidate but United’s hierarchy believe Chelsea’s takeover bid could drag on throughout the summer and they want to bring in Rangnick’s successor as early as possible.
The report claims that Ten Hag has subsequently emerged as United’s first-choice candidate following a series of background checks on the Ajax manager.
Meanwhile, Jamie Carragher was one of the first to urge United to make a move for Tuchel and described the decision to appoint the Chelsea manager as a ‘no-brainer’.
‘Manchester United have been presented with the ideal opportunity to recruit the manager who should be their number one target: Thomas Tuchel,’ Carragher wrote in his Telegraph column.
‘Given the events at Chelsea, United’s decision to wait until the end of the season presents them with a choice no-one could have foreseen.
‘One of the best managers in the world – the current Fifa coach of the year – must be top of their list.
‘Tuchel, like everyone else at Stamford Bridge, will have no idea what the future holds at his current club. No-one can offer him any assurances about how the squad will look at the start
