Brendan Rodgers will naturally watch Rangers this summer because he knows transfer truth about Celtic – Chris Sutton

Most people can be forgiven for drifting off in the second half of last weekend’s Rangers v Celtic clash at Ibrox.

Let’s be brutally honest. It was a bit of a non event. I said going in it was a dead rubber derby but both sides did their best to prove me right.

It got to a point when neither team fancied a bloodbath so settled for honours even to park the hostilities until next season.

That second half was a tough watch at times and although there could be more drama to come with the Scottish Cup Final on the horizon, I think this coming transfer window is going to be worth watching closely.

It’s a huge summer for Celtic. I know there will be plenty of people who will say if it’s not broken, why fix it?

That’s not the point. You ask Brendan Rodgers if he thinks his squad can just happily roll on without too many changes?

No chance. Rodgers has said a number of times, you can’t afford to get comfortable – and that is exactly where Celtic are right now.

They’ve strolled to the title. Don’t buy this stuff about Rangers having the edge in the derbies. The 17 point gap is what really matters and although Celtic will be disappointed not to have won the last few games against their rivals, they can still rest in the knowledge they are streets ahead.

It’s a bit like when Aberdeen used to get accused of raising their game for Rangers.

It might make a difference in a one-off encounter, but the real quality shows over the course of the campaign.

That doesn’t mean Celtic can afford to stand still. The key for me in the market is who will be staying at the club beyond the summer and who can they bring in to upgrade?

Celtic will want to add a couple at least regardless but how many will be down to departures.
