Brendan Rodgers told Celtic transfer lesson he must learn as Joe Hart question marks spark Leicester reminder

Chris Sutton has told Brendan Rodgers to think twice before rushing to replace Joe Hart as Celtic No.1.

The former England keeper has had a pre-season to forget after a blunder in the Hoops’ friendly defeat to Yokohama F Marinos. He was the penalty sinner last Saturday as his late trip on Matt Doherty allowed Wolves to level in Dublin. And there have also been some sketchy moments involving the 36-year-old trying to play the ball out with his feet.

Rodgers is well known for wanting his keeper to get involved in the build-up but was forced to rethink plans to ditch Craig Gordon as his first-choice goalie during his maiden Celtic stint. That followed Dorus de Vries’ ability on the ball failing to match up to the Scotland international’s talent for guarding the Hoops’ net. Now former Parkhead favourite Sutton has warned Rodgers against repeating the mistake he made at Leicester last year when he replaced Foxes icon Kasper Schmeichel with Welshman Danny Ward.

The Sky Sports pundit said: “I would replace any Celtic player if you can get a better one in. That’s what Brendan will be thinking.

“But the Joe Hart thing has grown arms and legs over pre-season. Joe has been a good goalkeeper for Celtic.

“In all honesty, I wasn’t sure about him when he came in. But he’s been a really important part of Celtic’s success and I wouldn’t be in a hurry to get him out the door unless they get someone in who is better.

“There’s been talk about Dominik Livakovic but the fact it hasn’t happened yet would lead me to believe it’s probably not going to . Rangers have done a similar thing, bringing in Jack Butland, who will have a strong temperament and be calm.

“You need that if you play for Celtic or Rangers, so I wouldn’t be in a hurry
