Neil Lennon predicts Celtic transfer 'demand' Brendan Rodgers will make of Parkhead chiefs after 'quality' admission

Neil Lennon reckons Celtic fans should be 'pleased' that manager Brendan Rodgers admits he needs quality in his squad, and that he will demanding that of the Hoops board.

The former Celtic manager has been in the position himself at Parkhead looking to add quality to a squad always fighting for silverware. But already it will be one less trophy than last season for the reigning Scottish Premiership champions after a Viaplay Cup exit to Kilmarnock ended any hopes of a Treble on Rodgers' return. And the drab display had the Irishman admitting transfer wise he still needs 'quality' to come in on top of his existing six summer recruits.

Lennon believes that despite the signings of the likes of Odin Thiago Holm, Yang Hyun-jun and Maik Nawrocki, the Parkhead squad isn't quite oven ready for the season, and needs firepower for the Champions League. But the former Hibs gaffer reckons the fact Rodgers will front up to the Celtic board is music to fans' ears despite the shock defeat at Rugby Park.

He told PLZ Soccer: "It's quite clear to me that the squad isn't ready yet, or it's not right. Maybe people say well it should be but they've lost Carter-Vickers and Hatate and they're bringing in new players, trying to bed them in.

"I don't think defensively that was the problem. There was a real lack of creativity, didn't work the goalkeeper nearly enough as much as Brendan would have wanted. Celtic fans should be pleased by the fact he's going 'I need quality' and that's quite apparent.

"Even if the squad isn't as good as it was last year, that tells you that it needs quality for the Champions League. You got two points from the group last year, fine, that was a first foray in to the Champions League in four or five years, I get it.
