BREAKING: Road closed off as emergency services respond to serious crash - latest updates

A road in Bolton has been shut off this afternoon as emergency services respond to a serious crash.

A stretch of Darwen Road in Bromley Cross is currently cordoned off. Police officers, firefighters and paramedics are on the scene.

The extent of the injuries in the crash has not yet been confirmed. People have been urged to avoid the area with diversions in place around the scene.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "GMP were called to the Darwen Road junction at around midday with other emergency services in attendance. The extent of the injuries sustained are not known this time, this is an ongoing serious incident."

A tweet posted by the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: "Our crews are currently at the scene of a road traffic collision on Darwen Road, Bromley Cross. Road closures and diversions are in place around the scene.

"Please avoid the area while crews and other emergency services carry out their work."
