BREAKING: Man cut free from car after three-vehicle smash as emergency services close road

A man was cut free and rescued from a car after a three-vehicle crash in Sale on Sunday evening (January 14). Emergency services descended on Brooklands Road, beside the junction with Whitehall Road, after the major collision at around 6.30pm.

Technical response units, as well as police, paramedics and the fire service, cordoned off the road for a number of hours after the crash. Pictures from the scene show tape blocking off the road and a two damaged cars within the cordon.

One man had self rescued before emergency crews arrived. Another had to be cut free from the vehicle and was given care at the scene by paramedics before being rushed to hospital. The nature of his condition is yet to be confirmed.

A witness, who was among the first on the scene, told the Manchester Evening News that four people were involved between the three cars, and that the others had self-rescued by the time paramedics arrived.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMRFS) said, “At around 6:30pm today (Sunday, 14th January), firefighters were called to reports of a crash at the junction of Whitehall Road and Brooklands Road in Sale.

“Two fire engines from Sale and Altrincham fire stations, as well as the technical response unit from Ashton fire station quickly arrived at the scene which involved three vehicles.

"One man had self-rescued before the arrival of the fire service, and another was cut from the vehicle and given medical care by fire service personnel, before being transferred to the care of the North West Ambulance Service (NWAS). Crews are still at the scene as they clear the roadway of debris.”
