BREAKING: M62 blocked near Manchester as crews tackle car fire - latest updates
Firefighters are in attendance on the M62 after a car burst into flames this evening. A lane has been closed on the motorway eastbound, between junctions 11 at Birchwood and 12 at Eccles.
Drivers are warned to expect disruption heading from Warrington and Merseyside towards Manchester. Images from the scene show firefighters tackling the blaze on the inside lane of the carriageway.
A spokesperson for National Highways North West wrote on Twitter: "The M62 in Greater Manchester is currently blocked eastbound between J11 and J12 due to a car fire. Fire and rescue are tackling the blaze.

"Thanks for your patience." One lane is shut between junctions 11 and 12, according to Inrix.
Further details about the fire are yet to be confirmed. Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service has been approached for comment.

Crews were called out to the scene shortly before 9pm.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said:
"At shortly before 9pm this evening (Monday, May 29), three fire engines from Eccles, Irlam and Salford fire stations were called to attend a car fire on the M62 eastbound between junctions 11 and 12.
“Crews arrived quickly and used two breathing apparatus,
