Brazilian rejects two other clubs to close in on €15m Newcastle move

Premier League side Newcastle United are closing in on the signing of Sassuolo left-back Rogerio, according to reports.

The Mapgies have already secured two deals this month with Chris Wood joining from Burnley and Kieran Trippier leaving Atletico Madrid for Tyneside.

Newcastle are set to be one of the busier Premier League clubs in the last week of transfer window as they continue to revamp their struggling squad.

Victory over Leeds United at the weekend was the Magpies second win of the season but they are still in the relegation zone despite having a game in hand on 17th-placed Norwich City.

Defence is a key area for improvement and a report insisted yesterday that Newcastle had agreed personal terms with Rogerio, worth around €2.5m per year.

And now TNT Sports Brasil claim that the Magpies are ‘close to agreeing’ a €15m deal with Sassuolo for the transfer of Rogerio with the Brazilian set to ‘arrive at the English club in the coming days’.

It is understood that the 24-year-old – who has played 95 times for Sassuolo – ‘had a proposal from two other European teams, but prioritised Newcastle’.

Meanwhile, former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson recently told the club to “get rid of” a number of players after they failed to clap the fans following the Geordies’ FA Cup defeat to Cambridge United.

Robinson told Football Insider: “Without a doubt, there is a few they need to get rid of.
