Magpies latest news: Journalist says Kieran Trippier has been a "class act" for Newcastle

Kieran Trippier’s Newcastle career might be just one month old, but Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie has already described him as a “class act”.

The right-back secured a £12m move back to the Premier League from Atletico Madrid at the start of January and has already played a key part in helping Eddie Howe’s side climb out of the drop-zone.

Trippier’s impact has been huge. Prior to his arrival on Tyneside, the Magpies had collected just 11 points from their opening 18 Premier League games, compared to seven in the three fixtures with the 31-year-old in the side.

Therefore, it doesn’t come as a great surprise that Trippier has been Newcastle’s best player this season according to WhoScored, with his 7.88 rating comfortably the best in the squad. In fact, the defender now has the highest in the entire Premier League, with his recent form taking him ahead of Mohamed Salah (7.82).

Trippier had produced two solid performances against Watford and Leeds but took his game to another level in Newcastle’s crucial victory over Everton on Tuesday night, which led to Howe describing him as “first class”.

Remarkably, the England international was pipped to the man of the match award by Allan Saint-Maximin, but his 8.39 rating saw him have more touches than any other Toon Army player (76), making the most key passes (4) before capping his display with a stunning first goal for the club.

With Trippier in the side, the Magpies appear in safe hands and Downie has already been impressed with the impact that he’s made at St James’ Park.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “You can see by the ball and his positioning and just how quickly he makes a decision, you can see he’s a class act.”
