'Bonkers' - Why Bolton made no transfer deadline day signings despite Premier League offers

Ian Evatt explained that a reluctance to put Bolton Wanderers at any threat of long-term risk financially and the potential impact on the culture of the club were key factors as the Whites did not strengthen on transfer deadline day.

Wanderers made five acquisitions over the summer. Eoin Toal and Jack Iredale have joined on permanent deals from Derry City and Cambridge United.

Two players have also been brought in on loan for the campaign. Defender Conor Bradley has joined from Liverpool, while goalkeeper James Trafford has been signed up again from Manchester City.

Owen Beck arrived on loan from Liverpool on the penultimate day of the transfer window. That proved to be the final signing of the window for Wanderers as, despite still looking for reinforcements, no further acquisitions were made.

Wanderers were offered players from both the Championship and even the Premier League as the transfer window neared its conclusion. However, these options were not taken up by the Whites.

Evatt explained that financial reasons were behind why Wanderers did not opt to make further signings and not take up the options offered to them. As well as that, there was a question mark over whether any prospective new arrivals would be the right fit for the squad which has been crafted at the University of Bolton Stadium.
