Owen Beck compared to Bolton duo Jack Iredale & Declan John as Liverpool loanee's fitness assessed

Ian Evatt sees Owen Beck as a hybrid of what Jack Iredale and Declan John offer at left wing-back with the Bolton Wanderers boss believing the Liverpool loanee is getting to where he needs to be in terms of fitness.

Beck became the fifth and final signing Wanderers made in the summer transfer window. He joined on loan for the campaign from the Anfield club.

An earlier loan spell at Portuguese side Familicao was cut short after the 20-year-old failed to make an appearance during his time on the Iberian Peninsula. He has now joined Wanderers foir the season.

Being a left back, Beck will be competing for a wing-back slot along with John and Iredale, who have been rotated in the position in the early stages of the season depending on what challenges each game presents Wanderers. Evatt sees the Liverpool youngster as a hybrid of the other two.

And he believes the players is 'getting there' in terms of his fitness following his first full week with Wanderers. He believes recent training has served him well for a position that is possibly the most difficult to fulfill for the Whites.

Evatt told the Manchester Evening News: “He’s getting there. Physically he wasn’t where we needed him to be because playing wing-back for me is probably the most difficult position, it’s the most physically demanding and you have to be really really fit.

“I think he was not at the required level but I think he’s getting there fast and I think the last couple of days training have done him the world of good and I’m starting to see what he can really do now, which is really good.
