Barry Ferguson spots Rangers masterstroke against Livingston that could turn Danilo into 'different player'

Barry Ferguson senses the way to Danilo's best form is through the middle.

The Brazilian was played as part of a front three of Sam Lammers and Cyriel Dessers against Livingston, but has been prowling outside his natural centre forward position in matches with Servette and the Lions. Dessers and Lammers' departure from proceedings moved the summer import from Feyenoord through the middle and he soon opened up his Ibrox account with a header as a 4-0 win was secured.

Former Rangers captain Ferguson was excited by the striker's signing but hasn't seen much of him to back up the hype so far, but senses a natural striker role can deliver that. He told Go Radio: "No doubt they started really strong and that is what will be worrying him, the middle part where they kind of come off it a bit. They were slow in their build-up, they were starting to take three, four, five touches before they passed it.

"He has obviously identified that and made the changes, Sima and Matondo came on and made a difference. I think with Danilo, I have been watching him and he is one signing I was excited about.

"He's not been at it but he's been playing in a position he hasn't played much throughout his career. When he went through the middle and Barisic swung in a brilliant ball, his movement between the two defenders and stuck his header away brilliantly.

"He looked a different player when through the middle. Guys got their first goals for the club and hopefully that will kick them on with a bit of confidence."
