Barry Ferguson responds to raging Rangers caller demanding Beale resignation as he rejects 'cheerleader' accusation
Barry Ferguson has defended himself in an angry Rangers phone-in call with one fuming punter over accusations he's a Michael Beale defender.
The Light Blues went down 1-0 losers to arch rivals Celtic at Ibrox in the first Premiership derby of the season thanks to a Kyogo goal in the first half. Kemar Roofe's disallowed opener for Rangers at 0-0 courtesy of a foul by Cyriel Dessers in the build-up has sparked controversy but plenty of rage has been spared for boss Beale and his men.
They were loudly booed off the park as fans made their feelings very clear on what they thought of the game. It comes off the back of Champions League elimination this week and it has one caller to Go Radio demanding that a change of management is made. Former captain Ferguson rejected that notion but soon a spat down the phone ensued between pundit and punter.
Caller: The manager has got to resign. There can be no excuses today and Barry the cheerleader Ferguson, never mind defending this man. This man should resign and take the failed duds that he has bought along...
Ferguson: What are you talking about cheerleader?
Caller: You constantly try and back the manager. When was the last time we won a key game?
Ferguson: You are four games into a season and you are wanting a manager out?
Caller: Don't make excuses. You are four points behind a rubbish Celtic team. The man should resign if he has any dignity.
Ferguson: I totally disagree with you, there you go. I totally disagree with you and I am allowed my opinion. How am I a cheerleader for him?
Caller: Football is entertainment. It is absolute dross we are watching.
Ferguson: Don't say I am a cheerleader.
Caller: Yes you are. That's exactly what you are.
